Therapeutic Effect of Formoterol in Reversible Obstructive Airway Diseases

Abstract

|
The efficacy of formoterol(Atock®) was evaluated in 15 asthmatic patients and 15 COPD patients with reversible component. The questionnaires about symptomes related to air ay obstruction and drug side effects, and spirometric examinations were done before and of after administration of 40,μg of formoterol twice a day for 2 weeks.
Subjective symptomes were improved in 26 patients (86.7%). There were significant improvement in FVC, FEV1 and PEF after administration of formoterol(P<0.005). Side effects were developed in 6 patients(20%) but significant side effects that cause discontinuation of formoterol were not found.
These findings suggest that formoterol is a safe and effective bronchodilator in the treatment of patients with reversible airway obstruction.
